Once again thank you for your support this term.  Please find below information, fees and dates for next term.

Please note there are some days when class times are a little different.  Also show fees which to go towards costumes, lighting and theatre hire which will be due at the beginning of next term.

SHOW NEWS

For those of you that are not already aware, this years show will take place on the 19^th June at Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge with performances at 2pm and 5.30pm.  All pupils are expected to perform in both shows, unless already discussed with me, with the exception of the tots (9am and 3.30 pm classes) only.

Parents of these children have the choice of either doing the 2 pm show or both.  Can you please let me know ASAP what you decide to do so that I can work with the children knowing who is doing what or both shows. Please note that it is the 5.30 pm show only that will be filmed for the DVD.

For those who have not been involved with a show before I have to abide by the theatres rules.  One of these being, ‘that no parent that is not an official helper, either with a chaperone License or an Enhanced CRB check, will be allowed backstage at anytime.’

Therefore I am now making a list of people who would like to help with either of the shows. You will need to bring a copy of your CRB so I can see it and make a note of the number, or if anyone has, or is willing to apply for, a chaperone license please let me know.  I know some parents have chaperone licenses for me last year, these are valid for 18months so will valid for this year too.

Tickets

Tickets for the show ‘Emotions’ are also now on sale. This year I was unable to use the box office, so tickets can be purchased from Marian on Saturdays or on the web site www.lauraemily.co.uk go to the dance shop link. Tickets are £8.50 Adults £6.50 Concessions. OAP’S or 16 years and under. Children under 3 are free if they are happy to sit on an adults lap.

SENIOR CLASS (1.30 -2.30)

All girls in this class will need silver ballroom shoes for the show.  I know some of the girls already have them, for those of you that haven’t I have managed to get them at a wholesale price of £17.00.  These will be worn throughout the show and in the following years shows so will get plenty of use. I need to get them on order ASAP so that the girls can practice in them. Please send payment with a note stating size and whether they would like the higher heel 2 inches or the lower heel 1.5 inches.

This year I would like this class to have their own tan fishnet tights. These can be ordered from me or purchased yourself. There are inexpensive fishnets at £3.00, but these tend to rip and do not last long or a more expensive pair for £19.50, I know it seems a lot for a pair of tights, but these last for years and can be used time and time again, I still have mine from when I was 18!!!!!!  If anyone would like to order them from me please send money in a named envelope.  I will be able to sort the sizing.  Or you are welcome to purchase these yourself from the dance shop in town or online.

COSTUMES

As some of you are aware in previous years the pupils kept some of their show costumes, however I would like the costumes to be of a higher standard this year so I have decided to buy some lovely dresses from a costumier which are costing between £20-£35 each, the rest will be hired. Therefore pupils will not be able to keep any of their costumes this year as I will store these for future use.  This doesn’t apply to the tot’s song and dance classes, they will be able to keep their dress.

There are some costumes which need to be proved by you, listed below.  Any questions please ask Laura or Marian.

Tots song and dance class (9am and 3.30pm)  – Will all need a pair of Pyjamas and a small teddy bear

Spotlight Class 9-10 years (10.45 – 12.00) – All need some ragged clothes.  Old jeans or a dress, shirt etc, anything that you can make look old and worn out. This can be done easily by staining with tea bags and adding a patch or two. The children need to look like orphans.

Senior Centre Stage 13 + (1.15 – 2.30) – All need a Halloween type outfit for this ‘Timewarp’ number.  E.g. Witch, scary, dark, wild – Or see me.  (I have explained this to the girls involved, so they have a better idea of what is required).

Your help and co-operation is greatly appreciated.

ATTENDANCE AND UNIFORM

Next term is a very important term, we have a lot of work to get through, so please can attendance be as good as possible, to enable us to put on a great show.  Also just a note on uniform as some classes are not looking very smart, If your child has uniform please try and encourage them to wear it, if  not  please can you ensure they come dressed appropriately, preferably in black leggings/jazz pants and black t shirt with suitable footwear, bare feet, trainers or jazz shoes.  Ugg boots, crocs and slip on shoes are not suitable.

12^th  Please note on 12^th June there will be changes to times in order to run the show. The afternoon class 6-8years will join the morning class at 9.45 till 10.45 on this date.  And the afternoon tots class 3.30 will join the 9am class.  All other classes which are 9-10, 11-12 and 13+ years are needed at 10.45 till 12.15.

18^th  Friday June all children taking part in the show, except the tots class 9am and 3.30pm. will be needed for a dress rehearsal at the theatre.  More information to follow.

19th Show Day times to be confirmed,

26^th – Class times as normal at Tower Hall, but photos in costumes first of all. So come with hair done!

JULY    3rd

Please note that on the 24^TH  April, the children will all be having a cover teacher, as I am not able to attend that day.  Marian will be there if you have any questions.  Please make sure your child still attends as this will be a perfect opportunity to perfect the routines.   Note:  The show fees help to pay for costumes,  lighting technician etc.

MAMMA MIA WORKSHOP

SUNDAY 13^TH December

at

Tower Hall, Broadlands Way, Rushmere, Ipswich, IP4 5SU

Mark Connell is now in his 2^nd year of performing in the hit west end musical, Mamma Mia.  His other theatre credits include Disneys Beauty and the Beast, The Full Monty, Singing in the Rain, Miss Saigon, Boogie Nights and Barnum.  He also played the title role in Peter Pan opposite Matthew Kelly.  As a backing dancer,  Mark has appeared with Gloria Gaynor in Holland at the International Broadcasting Convention Awards and with Atomic Kitten.  He has also done numerous television work. This is a great opportunity for the children to work with someone currently in the west end.  They will learn dances from the show itself and have a chance to ask Mark any questions.

3pm till 4pm  - 6 to10 years £7.00.

4pm till 5pm  - 11+ years £7.00

Places are limited; this is strictly a first come first served basis. Sisters/ Brothers and friends are welcome. Please email or call Laura if you would like to take part.

COSTUMES AND SHOES

All costumes should be named and on hangers.

Each child should have a box clearly labeled with their name on, for all their shoes and accessories.

Babies ballet (class one) can arrive in their costume, wearing their socks unless they have no ballet shoes in which case they will go onstage barefoot.

All other children should arrive in Laura Emily Uniform if they have it, if not smart please.

All cast need to bring their dance shoes with them - jazz shoes, trainers, ballet shoes and older girls, silver sandals.  If your child does not have the correct foot wear, bare feet will be fine.

Girls, who will be wearing bras in the show, please ensure they are flesh coloured or plastic strapped ones. You can get these very cheaply in Primark.

Classes 9-10 years upward need to bring black leggings and Laura Emily T- Shirts (if you don’t have one a plain black T-shirt is o.k.)

At the end of the last performance I will collect all costumes any that are sent home with the children are for them to keep.

No jewellery to be worn, apart from small ear studs.

HAIR AND MAKE-UP

Children, except baby’s ballet class, will need some basic make up, so as not to look washed out on stage. A brown eye shadow, blusher, red lip-stick and mascara.  Older girls can have eye liner and false eye lashes if they wish.

All cast members should come to the theatre with their hair and make up done, on the day of the show and the dress rehearsal.  If you are not able to do this someone will be able to do it for them at the theatre.  Please make sure your child has plain hair elastics in, with no other accessories.  Any ribbon will be given out once at the theatre

Babies Ballet – Bunches.

6-8 years and 9-10 years class – Half tail.

11-12 years class – High pony tail.

Senior class 5 – Hair will be done for you on arrival.

WHERE TO GO AND WHEN

If you are not sure about how to get to the Seckford Theatre please ask Laura for a map.  The post code is IP12 4JH.  The Seckford Theatre is situated in the grounds of Woodbridge school. It is signposted off Burkitt Road. There is plenty of parking to the back of the theatre.

All cast members must be dropped and collected at the stage door this is found on the right hand side of the theatre. Please do not use the main entrance this is for the audience only. After the dress run and performances children need to be collected from the stage door.  Their dresser or I will bring the children out one class at a time to insure everyone is collected.

NO PARENT WHO IS NOT A HELPER IS ALLOWED BACK STAGE AT ANY POINT, DUE TO LICENSING REGULATIONS.  YOUR CO-OPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

TIMES

Friday 17^th at  Seckford Theatre  Dress Rehearsal – Babies are not needed on this date.  Helpers and their children to arrive at 5.15 pm.  Everyone else to arrive at the stage door at 5.30 till 8.30pm. You will need to arrive with your hair styled as per show day, with makeup applied. Costume and shoes can all be left at the theatre over night.

Show day – All dressers and Chaperones with their child at 12.45 pm

                    All cast members 1pm prompt.  Please do not arrive before this time.          

DRESSERS AND CHAPERONES

Thank you very much for offering to help. You will all be given a name badge to wear on the day.  Parents helping with the 6pm performance please will you come back stage as soon as you have finished watching the first show.  You will also need to come to the stage door. Then all helpers from the 2pm perform will be able to leave.  If it’s a nice day we can take the cast out in the grounds to eat their tea.

Once you are with your age group that you are dressing, I will tell you this on the day or dress run.  Please insure that the children hair and make–up is neat and tidy.  The children will be called when it is time to go on stage and you or one of the dressers/ chaperones will come with them to the side of the stage and wait in the wings while they perform then escort them back to the dressing room.

FOOD AND DRINK

Please insure your child brings a packed tea with them and plenty to drink, if the weather remains very hot, please avoid chocolate or anything that can melt.  No fizzy drinks please.

Also all younger children are encouraged to bring something to do. Games, with their name on, but nothing of any great value.  6-8 years class all to bring a small cushion, pillow or blanket to sit on; as there will not be enough chairs in their room, and I find they usually like to sit under the tables on cushions, all good fun!

Alyssa Bailey, from Canada, is over in the UK for a short while only. She has competed in many competitions with her team, all over Canada and the USA. Students will have an opportunity to see a short clip of her in action and then have the chance to learn chants, dance routines, pom poms and even some stunts for the older girls.
